NOTICE:
TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE GEORGIA 911 DIRECTOR’S ASSOCIATION
It is that time of year that we are looking to fill Board positions that are due to expire at the end of 2021. The elections will be held the 3rd week of December via vote from the website, and a zoom meeting of the membership to announce the results of the elections once they have taken place. The actual date will be announced soon.
Per the Constitution and By Laws adopted January 1, 2019, the following Board positions are up for election/re-election as this is an odd numbered year:
VICE PRESIDENT
TREASURER
NORTHWEST REGIONAL DIRECTOR
SOUTHWEST REGIONAL DIRECTOR
Please refer to Article II, Section 4 of the C and B for the directions on how to apply. Incumbents who wish to re-apply need not have the support letters as they have already been submitted in prior years.
I would ask that the Vice President and Secretary of the Association please make sure that this is posted on the Association website and also on the Association Facebook page.
Thanks to each of you for the job that you do every day for the 911 profession!
Barry Woodward
President
Membership is open to all persons who are directors, assistant directors, and any person who has managerial responsibilities of a Public Safety Communications Operation.
The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association will be successful by working closely with established organizations, such as APCO and NENA, and is not intended to replace these vital organizations. The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association will be the vehicle used to take issues and concerns of the 9-1-1 community in Georgia to the appropriate audience.
The Association was organized in 2004 and already has made an impact on legislative agenda’s at the State Capitol. Directors from across the state were instrumental in the successful passing of HB470, HB280 and HB256. The Directors Association have also helped to oppose and defeat several bills that were not in the best interest of Public Safety Answering Points in Georgia. HB449 was the first bill created and sponsored by the association that was passed in the general assembly. The bill changed the way 911 calls are released with regard to open record request. This was accomplished by the Directors of the State of Georgia coming together as “One Voice” with a common message.
The Georgia 911 Directors Association also worked with the ACCG on Senate Bill 222 and House Bill 751 which created the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority in 2018.
The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association will continue to work to bring our issues to the State Legislature and other groups throughout the year in an effort to better educate them on the mission, needs and concerns of the 9-1-1 community.
